Special Works
Windsor Essex Central Council follows the Rule of the international Society. It is involved in Special Works apart from feeding the hungry and clothing the needy.
Twinning
Twinning affluent conferences with those in areas of high need helps meet the pressures for goods and services in third world countries, poor regions in our country and lower socio-economic areas in our city and county.
Twinning allows SSVP to respond in times of natural disasters, war and famine in effective ways through the people living in the areas facing the challenges.
Summer Camp
Summer Camp for needy children is a special work shared with Vincentians in Chatham-Kent. Located just outside Bothwell, Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Camp gives hundreds of children an opportunity to get a week away from the worries and challenges faced by the poor, and be carefree campers.
Needy families can send their children for a week's respite at no cost through SSVP. It's such a fun experience many families capable of paying for camping adventures choose to send their children to the camp. |
Jail Committee
The "Jail Committee" is made up of men and women Vincentians committed to serving the incarcerated and their families.
Regular friendly visits to our local jail are intended to bring hope and guidance to prisoners. Special occasions are celebrated with a "Jug Up", pizza, pop, candy, friendship.
Families, especially children, are often the silent sufferers when a loved one is in jail. It is the mission of SSVP to try to bring hope to these young ones. Clothing, food, smiles and understanding are provided by this ministry. |
No act of charity is foreign to Society of Saint Vincent de Paul.
Special projects and programs are part of what Vincentians are called to do.
